The Lost City, also known as Teyuna, is a magical destination located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. A trip to this ancient place is not just a hike, it is a deep immersion into nature, culture and history. Trekking to Ciudad Perdida is a test of physical and mental effort that rewards you with impressive landscapes, deep connections with the jungle and an encounter with the ancestral wisdom of indigenous peoples.
The road to Ciudad Perdida is not for the faint of heart, it is one of the best routes in Latin America; Physical effort is mixed with the passion to discover the ancestral secrets that this sacred territory keeps.
End Point: Plaza Bolívar located in the historic center of Santa Marta.
At 08:00 am, you will leave in a vehicle from Santa Marta towards the town of Mamey, a journey of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Upon arriving at Mamey, you will have lunch. Then you will begin a 7.6 kilometer journey (approximately 3 hours) to Adán's cabin, you will be able to see the grandeur of Mother Earth, the diversity of birds and native trees of the jungle that have remained in the territory for hundreds of years, a place where You will spend the night and have dinner; Additionally, very close to the cabin you will enjoy the Honduras ravine, a natural water pool between mountains. The bedrooms for this first day will be beds or hammocks with mosquito nets (depending on availability).
On this day you will take a route of 14.7 kilometers, approximately 8 hours, an intense and highly demanding walk until you reach the Paradise cabin. During the walk, you will visit the Mutanyi indigenous people, there you will be able to interact with their culture and enjoy the waters of the Buritaca River. Don't forget to take excellent photographs of the diverse fauna and flora found in this exotic place, unique in the world. . You will have dinner around 6:00 p.m., and then rest in beds or hammocks with mosquito nets (depending on availability).
Early in the morning you will leave for the Lost City (duration of approximately 3 hours). You will have the opportunity to take photographs and hear more about this mystical place which holds endless stories, told by the Mamos themselves of the Sierra Nevada. The descent will be made to the Mumake cabin, it will be a journey of approximately 4 hours and you will walk about 7.6 kilometers. Once you are there you will share with the group, catch your breath, highlight your best photographs, have dinner and spend a quiet night.
After a good rest, very early you will continue the descent towards El Mamey, on a route of 15.6 kilometers and 6 hours of walking, a quite demanding descent, in this place you will see different types of hummingbirds, you will be able to feel that the density of the air is very different, you will find that you descend from heaven and comfort yourself in body and thought. At El Mamey, the vehicle that will take you back to Santa Marta awaits you. All this while you drink the sacred drink of the Mamos of the Sierra Nevada and say goodbye to this sacred place.
- Transportation: 4x4 transportation on the Santa Marta - El Mamey - Santa Marta route. (The pickup can be in Santa Marta historic center, the central Rodadero, Taganga or the central area of Minca near the church. And on the way back, there is the possibility of staying at the entrance of Tayrona Park).
- Accommodation: 3 nights of lodging in a hammock or dormitory-type bed with mosquito net, in peasant or indigenous community cabins depending on availability.

- This is a trekking trip with significant physical demands, so evaluate your current state of health and live this experience to the fullest.

Recommendations and Travel Equipment
Travel Equipment:
-Sunscreen and lipstick (ideal if it is natural).
-Sunglasses, with UV filter.
-Insect repellent.
-Canteen, thermos or camelback.
-Lightweight waterproof jacket or cape.
-Personal towel to use during walks.
-Appropriate size backpack for luggage. Recommended to pack light, only the essentials.
-As the climate is humid, a very good option is to carry all your clothes in airtight bags or dry bags inside your travel suitcase, your personal documents and electronic equipment.
-Basic personal hygiene items (toilet paper, soap, shampoo).
-Traveller documents: passport, identity card or citizenship card, military booklet and medical insurance card.
-It is mandatory to have a complete vaccination schedule (including booster) and bring it to be able to carry out the experience.
Travel clothing:
-It is important to wear comfortable clothing, preferably quick-drying, light-colored synthetic clothing. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts or t-shirts. Bring only one change of clothes to wear during your daily walk and another change of clothes to change when you arrive at the accommodations.
-Trekking boots and change sandals to cross the rivers. You can wear pantanera boots if you are used to wearing them, you will see that it is much more practical.
-Lightweight waterproof.
-Dress or swimwear.
-Hat or cap.
Recommendations:
-You will have to be in Santa Marta at least the night before or before 7:30 am given the start time of the tour. Losses or expenses due to delays or not being ready at the start time of the tour are not the responsibility of Montañeros 2.0.
-In some camps where you will spend the night there is electricity but no telephone signal. Accommodation can only be guaranteed in a hammock, since beds are NOT reserved and availability depends on the arrival of travelers.
-October is the rainy season in the area, be prepared, the effort will be double.
-Getting to Teyuna is a challenging hike. There will be 1,200 steps that will take you to this archaeological piece with a great history. We recommend that you warm up before hiking, bring trekking poles to help you support yourself, apply sunscreen, and stay hydrated. Consume nuts. It is a good way to give energy to your body.
-The mules that are intended to carry food will only be available for this purpose, not to carry luggage or people.
How to get?
Santa Marta is a very well connected city! By air you can fly from Medellín, Bogotá, Pereira, Cali and Bucaramanga, among others, with airlines such as Avianca, LATAM and Viva Air. By land you can travel by bus from Barranquilla approximately 2 hours, from Cartagena 4 hours, from Bogotá or Medellín 16 hours of travel.
- It is an indigenous reservation. You will stay in mountain camps, located in strategic places along the route. The facilities are basic but suitable for rest. You can spend the night in bed or in a chinchorro (a type of hammock) with a mosquito net, depending on availability.
- The bathrooms are shared. The electricity supply is limited to certain hours of the day and the cell phone signal is poor. Being isolated places, do not expect luxuries or great comforts.
